Rhetorical Analysis Females are being short-changed when it comes to education. That is according to the article â€Å"Hidden Lessons† (Sadker 54-56). By â€Å"cherry picking† evidence the authors’ attempts to establish male gender bias is being practiced in the classroom. The claim of teachers generating specific male friendly behavior may be hurting female’s self-esteem, learning capabilities, and even career options. However, the explanations as to why there is lower self- esteem in female students, due to educators behavior is vague. Save The Children is one such organization that addresses this issue with utmost urgency and seriousness. It is a UK based social group which addresses the issue of child labor and fights for their rights as well. In this report, an action plan proposed by this organization in order to resolve the issue of child labor is discussed by the researcher. This social group works on coordinating their efforts in the fields of children education and development both physically and emotionally in order to eradicate the curse of child labor from this society (Logins, 2016). Primary objectives of the action plan Every social groups or organization which aspire to be successful in terms of achieving their goal should have proper and focused objectives of their action plan. The action plan in order to address the issue of child labor created by Save the Children social group in the UK has set some clarified objectives that are to be achieved at any condition. Those fundamental objectives are discussed in this section of the report. Firstly, Save the Children group has set their sights upon creating a robust policy framework in relating to the issue of child rights and child development which involves conventions on the development of a child as well as international standard effective practices (Jogram, Deore and Shankarrao, 2012). Secondly, this organization's objective is to promote education among the deprived children, by making them realize the importance of education in their lives as well as providing utmost support in terms of receiving a quality education (Edgington, 2002). Thirdly, their aim is to directly fight child labor by preventing, rehabilitating, withdrawing, re-integrating working children and their entire families, so as to give them a new hope of succeeding in life (Working with Children Project, 2002). Each objective set by Save the Children social group will be supported by a set of proposed actions in order to achieve those objectives. Firstly, for the creation of a robust policy framework, some points of action have to be acknowledged. Introducing new and clarified legislative framework considering effective actions and preventive measures in the cases of child labor is an important point of action. Promotion of employment-oriented development in both the rural and the urban areas should be considered as another essential point of action in this regard (Save the children, 2014). Secondly, for achieving the objective of promoting education among the deprived children, Save The Children organization has proposed some action points to be worked upon. Improvement in the collection of data and its analysis of the number of children who are out of school and does not receive any sort of education, and in turn profiling this information and listing all the candidates and providing them basic education is an important point of action. For achieving the mentioned objective, another action point which is acknowledged by Save the Children organization is the identification of the bottlenecks in terms of school participation of the children, and resolving the related issues (Kavanagh, 2013). Thirdly, for achieving the objective of rehabilitating, reintegrating, and preventing the children and their families, Save The Children social group has acknowledged the fact that they have to come up with certain action points. One of those proposed actions is to convince the children along with their families to rehabilitate if necessary. Another action point which is to be considered is to arrange the facilities that are required for their re-integration and rehabilitation (Harper, 2007). To fulfil the objective of generating maximum awareness, Save the Children social group has proposed an elaborate action plan which involves conduction of awareness campaigns relating to child labor, filming documentaries and conduction of various surveys relating to the child labor issues. If a suitable framework is established, then child labor cases could be drastically minimized, as with the inclusion of strong rules and policies the child employers themselves would dread before indulging themselves in this practice of employing under-aged children for doing their work (slund and Grnqvist, 2010). Upon the successful completion of the second objective, of promoting the pros of education among deprived children, some very positive outcomes can be anticipated. If the requirement of education can be ignited in the children, then they themselves would be able to try to shape their futures in a different direction. Once they understand the importance of education, they would try to escape from the stranglehold of child labor, with the help of their families as well as Save the Children social group. Moreover, if the third objective of rehabilitating and re-integrating of the children and their families can be achieved, some potentially positive outcomes can be expected as well. If Save The Children social group are able to rehabilitate the children and their families, they can find new hope and start afresh in a new environment. With the help of the organization, the children can get basic education and get a chance to shape their lives in their own ways (Kuziemko, 2007). The fourth objective established by the Save The Children social group was to generate maximum potential awareness among the masses about the threat of child labor to the entire society. If the organization is successful in achieving this objective, then the masses will acknowledge the fatal issues related to child labor and more hands will join in order to fight against child labor and in turn this practice could be minimized to a considerable extent. Finally, upon the successful completion of the final objective set by Save The Children social group, some potentially positive outcomes are anticipated. If this objective is achieved by this social group, then the business sectors would take interest in the issues of child labor, which in turn would result in the introduction of a lot of finances which could be used for the benefits of the children and their families. Key risks involved There exist some potential risk factors in terms of completing the action points, which is a necessity in order to successfully complete the action plan. These risk factors are discussed in this section. In the case of the first action points required to complete the first objective, i.e., to create a robust policy framework, a risk factor is involved, as the government might not agree with the policy stated and the local government groups may also disagree, which may often lead to undesirable circumstances (Rashed et al., 2013). In case of the action points needed to complete the second objective, i.e., to promote education among the deprived children, a risk factor is involved, as the employers of the children may cause chaos while performing these attempts and their own families might be against education, which can prove to be a major risk factor. In the case of the other three objectives, a primary risk factor can be identified. This risk factor can be deemed as finances required for achievement of the mentioned action points in the previous sections of this report. Biography of Atlanta Mass Murderer Mark Orrin Barton

Biography of Atlanta Mass Murderer Mark Orrin Barton Known as being one the largest mass murderers in Atlantas history, day-trader Mark Barton, 44, went on a killing spree on July 29, 1999, at two Atlanta-based trading firms: All-Tech Investment Group and Momentum Securities. Upset over seven weeks of big losses in day trading, which had brought him to financial ruin, Bartons killing spree resulted in 12 people killed and 13 injured at the two companies. After a daylong manhunt and surrounded by police, Barton committed suicide by shooting himself at an Acworth, Georgia, gas station when his capture became imminent. The Killing Spree At around 2:30 p.m. on July 29, 1999, Barton entered Momentum Securities. He was a familiar face around there and just like any other day, he began chatting with the other day traders about the stock market. Dow Jones was showing a dramatic drop of about 200 points adding to a week of disappointing numbers. Smiling, Barton turned to the group and said, Its a bad trading day, and its about to get worse. He then took out two handguns, a 9mm Glock and a .45 caliber Colt, and began firing. He fatally shot four people and injured several others. He then went across the street to All-Tec and began shooting, leaving five dead. According to reports, Barton had lost an estimated $105,000 in about seven weeks. More Murders After the shooting, investigators went to Bartons home and discovered the bodies of his second wife, Leigh Ann Vandiver Barton, and Bartons two children, Matthew David Barton, 12, and Mychelle Elizabeth Barton, 10. According to one of the four letters left by Barton, Leigh Ann was murdered the night of July 27, and the children were murdered on July 28, the night before the shooting spree at the trading firms. In one of the letters, he wrote that he did not want his children to suffer without having a mother or father and that his son was already showing signs of the fears that he had suffered with throughout his life. Barton also wrote that he killed Leigh Ann because she was partly to blame for his demise. He then went on to describe the method he used to kill his family. There was little pain. All of them were dead in less than five minutes. I hit them with the hammer in their sleep and then put them face-down in the bathtub to make sure they did not wake up in pain, to make sure they were dead. The body of his wife was found under a blanket in a closet and the childrens bodies were found in their bed. Prime Suspect in Another Murder As the investigation into Barton continued, it was revealed that he had been the prime suspect in the 1993 murders of his first wife and her mother. Debra Spivey Barton, 36, and her mother, Eloise, 59, both of Lithia Springs, Georgia, went camping on Labor Day weekend. Their bodies were found inside their camper van. They had been bludgeoned to death with a sharp object. There was no sign of forced entry and although some jewelry was missing, other valuables and money had been left behind, leading investigators to put Barton on top of the list of suspects. A Lifetime of Trouble Mark Barton seemed to make bad decisions most of his life. In high school, he showed great academic potential in math and science, but started using drugs and ended up in hospitals and rehabilitation centers after overdosing several times. Despite his drug background, he got into Clemson University and, in his first year, he was arrested and charged with burglary. He was placed on probation, but that did not deter his drug use and he ended up leaving Clemson after suffering a breakdown. Barton then managed to get into the University of South Carolina, where he earned a degree in chemistry in 1979. His life seemed to level out some after college, although his drug use continued. He married Debra Spivey and in 1998 their first child, Matthew, was born. Bartons next brush with the law happened in Arkansas, where the family had relocated to due to his employment. There he began to show signs of severe paranoia and often accused Debra of infidelity. As time went on, he became increasingly controlling over Debras activities and exhibited strange behavior at work. In 1990 he was fired. Furious by the firing, Barton retaliated by breaking into the company and downloading sensitive files and secret chemical formulas. He was arrested and charged with felony burglary but got out of it after agreeing to a settlement with the company. The family moved back to Georgia where Barton got a new job in sales at a chemical company. His relationship with Debra continued to deteriorate and he began having an affair with Leigh Ann (later to become his second wife), who he had met through his work. In 1991, Mychelle was born. Despite the birth of a new child, Barton continued seeing Leigh Ann. The affair was no secret to Debra, who, for unknown reasons, decided not to confront Barton. Eighteen months later, Debra and her mother were found dead. Murder Investigation From the start, Barton was the prime suspect in the murders of his wife and mother-in-law. The police learned of his affair with Leigh Ann and that he had taken out a $600,000 life insurance policy on Debra. However, Leigh Ann told the police that Barton was with her over Labor Day weekend, which left investigators without evidence and a lot of speculation. Unable to charge Barton with the murders, the case was left unsolved, but the investigation was never closed. Due to the murders being unsolved, the insurance company refused to pay Barton, but later lost a lawsuit Barton filed and he ended up getting the $600,000. New Beginnings, Old Habits It was not long after the murders that Leigh Ann and Barton moved in together and in 1995 the couple married. However, just like what happened with Debra, Barton soon began showing signs of paranoia and distrust towards Leigh Ann. He also began losing money as a day-trader, big money. The financial pressures and Bartons paranoia took a toll on the marriage and Leigh Ann, along with the two children, left and moved into an apartment. Later the two reconciled and Barton rejoined the family. Within months of the reconciliation, Leigh Ann and the children would be dead. Warning Signs From interviews with those who knew Barton, there were no obvious signs that he was going to flip out, murder his family, and go on a shooting spree. However, he had earned the nickname Rocket at work because of his explosive behavior while day trading. This type of behavior was not all that unusual among this group of traders. It is a fast, high-risk game, where gains and losses can happen quickly. Barton did not talk much about his personal life with his fellow day traders, but many of them were aware of his financial loses. All-Tech had stopped allowing him to trade until he put money in his account to cover his losses. Unable to come up with the money, he turned to other day-traders for loans. But still, none of them had any idea that Barton was harboring resentment and about to explode. Witnesses later told police that Barton seemed to purposely seek out and shoot some of the people who had loaned him money. In one of the four letters he left in his home, he wrote about hating this life and having no hope and being terrified each time he woke up. He said that he did not expect to live much longer, just long enough to kill as many of the people that greedily sought my destruction. Research Methods and Methodologies in Accounting and Management - Essay Example August Comte was the philosopher, which coined the term positivism and linked it with empiricism, which believes that authentic knowledge can only be gained with the help of our senses, human experience, and verification. Positivist researchers aimed at creating mechanisms with which they could develop hypothesis, test them in a manner, which helps them to predict the future occurrences or behavior (Scott & Morrison, pp. 314-316, 2006; Cohen, pp. 124-125, 2007). The positivist research approach is also known as the scientific approach where the logical of inquiry is based on reason, facts, and experiences. Holding knowledge of anything, which is beyond the human experience or which cannot be observed or measured, is impossible (Eriksson & Kovalainen, pp. 89-91, 2008). For example, in his research and studies, the focus of B. F. Skinner was on observing the predicting the positive and negative reinforces of behavior and he went on to avoid all other cultural, human and social factors which can impact the process since it is not possible to observe, measure and predict them (Phillimore & Goodson, pp. 209-211, 2004). Moreover, positivist researcher avoid the subjective state of individuals because they think that humans are passive and reactive to the external stimuli, which makes their thinking and behavior predictable and unworthy of attention. This not only dehumanizes the human beings but also makes them unworthy of free will (Zalan & Lewis, pp. 507-508, 2004). Positivist researchers go on to believe that the entire universe is working on specific principles of cause and effect. Moreover, in order to uncover the truth, the researcher should try to find those cause and effect link and use that to predict the future events, occurrences, and behaviors (McNiff & Whitehead, pp. 10-12, 2000; Creswell, pp. 235-236, 2009). Positivist research methods include experimental research and descriptive research. As the name suggests, experimental research occurs when the res earchers deliberately manipulate certain factors under highly controlled and monitored conditions (Johnson & Christensen, pp. 346-347, 2010; Cohen, pp. 124-125, 2007). Quite understandably, the purpose remains to highlight links between variables while manipulating different factors. Under the umbrella of descriptive research, researchers use surveys, case studies, developmental studies, corelational studies, trend studies, and others (Eriksson & Kovalainen, pp. 89-91, 2008; Scott & Morrison, pp. 314-316, 2006). Critical Research Methodology On the other hand, critical researchers hold the belief that social reality has its roots in history and although, people may try to change themselves and their reality but in the process of the doing so they find themselves faced with various social, economic, cultural and political barriers. It was Jurgen Habermas, one of the leading German philosophers of the 21st century, who deserves the credit for developing and nurturing this approach in the field of social sciences and research in order to explore the historical forces, which have the power of restrict the human freedom and justice in the society (Creswell, pp. 235-236, 2009). Karl Marx, Georg Hegel, Paulo Freire, and others have also played an important role in development of this theory (Eriksson & Kovalainen, pp. 89-91, 2008; Zalan & Lewis, pp. 507-508, 2004). Like the interpretativists, critical researchers also address and acknowledge the fact that the element of subjectivity is present in observations but
